Yes it was fun being at the top but it's gone rapidly downhill since then. Never mind! Hopefully we'll be back to winning ways at the weekend.

Please can everyone make an effort to get to training where the numbers have fallen in the same way our league position has. You all know what will happen on the tour next year if your attendance is lacking.

Looking further ahead, Graham is organising a skittles night for December. It's going to be happening on Wednesday 16th so make sure you've got a �5 for fish and chips. There's going to be an ultra competitive skittles tournament so get your practice in sooner rather than later!

Top of the League

After a fantastic start to the season, Court Celtic lie top of the Premier Division thanks to another excellent performance against Marston Green at the weekend.

Two goals from Bully, strikes from Spilla, Stu and a superb finish from Coxy saw Court Celtic run out 5-1 winners. Even a quite spectacular error in judgement by Mark in goal (much much worse than Chris' error last week) failed to prevent what was a surprisingly comfortable victory.

This month may prove a bit trickier with tough games against Bourneville, Moseley Mariners and The York.

Don't forget training tonight and hopefully some photos to be taken at the weekend for this fine website (just for Rob).

Impressive Start

Yesterday Court Celtic recorded their third straight win of the season with an excellent performance against Solihull Red Diamonds. Despite dominating for most of the first half Court Celtic failed to find the opening goal until shortly after half time when a superb counter-attack lead to Bully finishing in style. Solihull Red Diamonds had their best spell of the match following the goal but were unable to create any clear cut chances before Cannon all but sealed the victory with a strike from outside the area. After that it was just left for an own goal to complete the victory before an awful mistake in defence gifted a consolation goal.

Remember that training is back on at Woodrush this week following a week off and if you still have the first installment of your annual subs outstanding they are now required.

A bank holiday night out has been planned for Sunday 30th August. We've got a friendly in the morning but as it's Bank Holiday we thought it might a good excuse to go for a few beers. Destination has not been confirmed yet but we'll let you know nearer the time.

Friendlies

Next month the new season kicks off so, as per usual, Court Celtic have a bit of work to do to get ready for it. Training's in full force now everyone making a real effort which is great to see.

There's three friendlies confirmed for this month beginning with an away fixture against Sheldon United at Sheldon School on August 9th, followed by home games against Maxtel United and Arden Athletic on August 16th and August 23rd respectively. If you are struggling to make any of the matches make sure you let Macca know or inform one of the senior members at training.

Awards Night

Congratulations to Tom, Mark, Dale and Cannon who all won awards on Friday at the end of season night out. Thanks once again for everyone that attended and it was good to see everyone prior to the new season.

Further details of the AGM will follow but for the time being please remember that training will be changing to a Wednesday evening in Shirley Park for the foreseeable future.

Training and 5-a-side

No update for a while but training resumes this week at Shirley Park. As usual if everyone can get there for 6:30pm that would be great. Also, if you know of any new players that would like to join, bring them along.

Secondly, there's a 5-a-side tournament this weekend at Wake Green. Last year we made it to the semi-final so hopefully this year we can go a little bit further. We're hoping to enter two teams this year so there should be more than enough places for everyone that wants to play. Let Ally know asap so he has an idea of numbers.

Yes I know there's no tour write up done yet. It will be done soon enough.

Anyway, in the meantime there's a few dates to remind everyone of. The first is July 11th when Shirley Carnival takes place. We've got a stall there so the more people that make the effort to go the more money we can make. Please get in contact with Ally if you want some more details.

The following Wednesday, the 15th, is the Court Celtic AGM. It will be at the Lamp Tavern at 7:30pm. Please make sure you're there.

The most important of the dates is Friday 17th when the Court Celtic presentation evening will be held. Final details are to be confirmed but they will be on here as soon as I find out.

We're currently trying to organise a pitch and training for next season so if everyone could phone up anywhere that might be suitable that would be great. Let Chris or Ally know if you have any success.

Finally, many congratulations to Luke who's daughter Tia was Christened at the weekend and a Happy Birthday to Ally who's mental age remains in single figures even though he's now almost 30!

Two Out Of Two!

After Crusaders lost last night, Court Celtic are guaranteed a top two finish this season, the second time in two seasons that they have been promoted!

It's been a great team effort considering the amount of games that have been cancelled and the number of teams that have dropped out. Not only that but lack of training facilities, numerous injuries to key players, and a rookie manager, albeit one who is admired by everyone at Court Celtic, hasn't prevented it from being another successful campaign.

I'd like to thank everyone for the amount of hard work you've all put in to making it another thoroughly enjoyable season and hopefully you'll all be able to make it out on Sunday after the game for a few drinks to celebrate!

Tour Time

You'll be pleased to know that planning for the tour is coming along nicely. The bed and breakfasts have both been booked with the transport and opposition currently being organised.

Chris is responsible for booking the accommodation so if you want to come make sure you get the �50 to him asap. As there's no match this weekend make sure you have it ready for April 12th or alternatively pass it to someone who will be seeing him beforehand, such as Ally, Bully or Dale.

Graham is handling train fares so it is up to you to let him know whether you want a train ticket. Once again the sooner the better so that the fare is cheaper.

The Run In

Court Celtic are still doing well at the top of Premier Division 1 but due to another drop out, Tyseley Working Men's Club have closed the gap. Sunday's game against St Anne's B is a must win with only four league games remaining until the end of the season.

Not So Good but Torquay Helps

Court Celtic slumped to a disappointing loss in the George Tomlinson Cup after conceding two early goals at home to St Annes B on Sunday. Despite a strong opening to the second half, St Annes played superbly and were well worth their victory.

This season's tour is currently being organised. For those that missed out last year it's the highlight of the season. If in doubt check out what happened last year! It's currently being planned for the first weekend in May, 1st to the 4th, which coincides with May Day. Once again the destination is Torquay so put a few pennies aside to make sure you don't miss out.

9 Of The Best!

Court Celtic cemented their place at the top of the Premier 1 table at the weekend with a stunning 9-1 victory over Marston Lions. An excellent performance by everyone capped by hat tricks for Tom and Luke. Luke deserves a special mention considering his usual position is in defence and he's been injured since November. Tom's hat trick sees him become Court Celtic's current top scorer.

No game this week means that there's night out planned! Everyone to meet as close to 5pm in the Assembly Rooms Arms in Solihull. Unfortunately Mr O'Hara won't be there so please keep the forfeits for next time.

Congratulations this month go to Chris Cannon who has excelled recently as Court Celtic have gone on an unbeaten run stretching back to the beginning of November. One of the club�s most consistent performers he�s led by example as Court Celtic have excelled.

Happy Christmas

It's almost Christmas and Court Celtic are ending the year strongly after a succession of good results. No goals conceded in the last three games has seen Court Celtic reach the summit of Premier Division 1 and progress into the next round of the George Tomlinson Cup following an excellent win against Conway Albion on Sunday. A far cry from last year when Court Celtic lost three matches on the bounce to lose to spot in Division 1.

You'll all be pleased to know our Christmas party has been arranged for the 28th. It's a Hawaiian party after the game on Sunday. Don't forget!

Well our captain got married on Friday and it was great to see Court Celtic celebrating with the new Mr and Mrs McFarlane. Everyone associated with the club wishes them all the best for the future.

Vikings!

Court Celtic were back in action on Sunday and produced a superb fightback from 2 goals down to win 2-3 against Star. Rob's second goal of the season and man of the match Cannon's first drew Court Celtic level before debutant Nick Flint scored the winner to secure an excellent victory in the Coronation Cup.

This weekend sees another night out with the fun kicking off in Birmingham at 7pm. Further details can be found on the events page but all you need to remember is a Viking outfit and you'll be fine. Needless to say, Court Celtic may be struggling on Sunday.

The Big Kick Off

Court Celtic's first game of the season was against St Annes on Sunday which resulted in a 1-1 draw in the rain. You'll all be pleased to see a match report which I'll do my best to include after every game but if anyone would like to contribute it would be much appreciated.

The next social night has also been arranged. In less than three weeks time the new sqaud members will have the pleasure of being introduced to the goodie bag. Just don't forget your yellow gear or you could be in trouble!

Court Celtic kicked off the new season on Sunday with a hard fought draw against St Annes, who were also promoted last season. In humid conditions, St Annes started strongly but Court Celtic responded well and were unlucky not to go ahead after hard work by Chris Cannon resulted in a pull back from which Paul Skerrett could only hit the crossbar. Shortly after, a mistake at the back allowed St Annes to take the lead, a disappointing end to the first half after what had been a solid performance up to that point.

The second half was similar to the first except this time it was Court Celtic who pushed for an early goal. Unfortunately nothing came about and St Annes had opportunities to increase the lead which they could not take thanks to some excellent saves from Court Celtic man of the match Mark Belton.

With time running out and pressure mounting, a rash challenge on Chris Cannon gave Court Celtic a lifeline from the penalty spot. Stu McFarlane calmly stepped up and slotted the ball off the inside of the post to claim the first point of the new season.

Aftermath

After a delayed start to proceedings, Saturday night turned into a cracking night. Mr Chairman Sir did a fine job of organising everyone and distributing plenty of forfeits all round.

If you've got any videos of Ally in and a dress and Steve skipping with him while handcuffed together, that would be very much appreciated.

More importantly, there was a distinct lack of attendees at training last night. Once again, if you can't make training, please ensure you have phoned Jason to let him know. We had a professional coach last night and it was embarrassing seeing such a poor turn out.

Friendlies

Now that pre-season training is well underway it's imperative that as many players attend as possible. Club guidelines have already been outlined so those that turn up will be selected over those that fail to.

The next two weeks training will act as a build up to first friendly which has been arranged for Sunday 27th July. Further details will follow in the near future.

A Great Saturday

Thanks once again to everyone who turned up on Saturday to participate in the Wake Green 5-a-side tournament and help out at Shirley Carnival.

Although Court Celtic were knocked out in the semi-final on penalties everyone enjoyed themselves in the sun, wind and rain. Unfortunately as we did so well in the tournament we arrived quite late in the afternoon to the carnival but in the short period of time we were there we attracted a large number of families. Alex 'volunteered' to go in goal and did a fine job repelling scorchers from his tiny opponents. Mark may struggle to keep his place this season after such an outstanding performance between the sticks.

Mr Chairman was also on hand to set out the rules and regulations for the 2008/2009 season. For those that didn't turn up there will be harsh penalties imposed. Talking of penalties, Chris and Tom, who both missed in the semi-final, were set tasks of practising against their mums. Enjoy the photo!

The first social event of the season has also been arranged for Saturday August 2nd. Details will be confirmed closer to the time.

New Start

Pre-season training got underway last night and although there weren't as many as we'd have liked, everyone that attended put the effort in.

This Saturday sees Court Celtic enter two teams at the Wake Green 5-a-side tournament. For those that are attending please ensure you bring at least �5 for entry to the competition.

If any players are not involved in the tournament team you will will be manning the Court Celtic stall at Shirley Carnival from 12pm. Please make an effort as it is to raise extra money for the club and will go towards extra equipment and the end of season tour. Remember to wear your tour t-shirts if you have them!

Finally, if you would like to join Court Celtic or know of anyone that would, get in contact!

Pre-Season Training

Don't forget that training resumes tomorrow night at Shirley Park. Be there as close to 6:30 as possible so that we can get to the pub nice and early! Don't forget that money will be collected to subsidise training once we move to a different venue in the winter so please do not forget your money!

Finally, there will be a short meeting after the session so please do your utmost to attend! A special guest will be there to inform everyone of some forthcoming activites for the season.

5-a-side and Fundraising

There is a 5-a-side at Wake Green AFC on Saturday 5th July at 09:45. Anyone interested in participating for Court Celtic should contact Ally as soon as possible.

Following this tournament there will be a fundraising event at Shirley Park where any help would be much appreciated.

Congratulations

Well done to Stu (Player's Player), Ally (Services to the Club), Mark (Manager's Player), Alex (Club Man) and Bully (Golden Boot) who all won awards at the end of season night out. This season has been a resounding success for Court Celtic and everyone has played their part in earning promotion and reaching the latter stages of the Coronation Cup.

Leading on to next season, we would like to continue the success of 2007/2008 and that means raising money for the club. If you would like to sponsor Court Celtic or know of anyone that would please use the form on the contact page or mail us directly.

On Thursday there will be the Court Celtic AGM at The Lamp Tavern. The meeting commences at 7:30pm so please make an effort to be there on time. The future of the club will be discussed so it is important for you all to be present.

This Saturday, Stu has kindly organised the 2007/2008 Court Celtic awards dinner. The evening begins at 7pm and is being held at Piquant Restaurant in Moseley. The cost will be �16 which also covers the trophies.

Promotion

After a long season, Court Celtic sealed promotion last week with a 4-4 draw in the snow against Rowood. A win would have kept the pressure on Northfield but they have never looked like being overhauled and will deservedly be crowned Division 1 champions next week.

With our final league gane on Tuesday against St Andrew Tavern we now have the Coronation Cup Semi-Final to look forward to at the end of the month.

Climax to the Season

Well the end of the season is finally in sight. Only five league games remain after Arden Athletic dropped out of Division 1 last month.

Court Celtic had a great February, winning our only league game and two cup games, one against our nearest rivals Northfield Rangers from Division 1 and the other against VIP International who are flying high in the division above.

Unfortunately our run in the George Tomlinson Cup came to end on Sunday despite a stunning performance against Maypole Youth who have not lost all season. A 1-1 result took us to penalties where we eventually lost 7-6.

The dogs night was a resounding success and although our lane was hopeless everyone had a great night.

40th Anniversary Tour

The long awaited Court Celtic 40th anniversary tour to Newquay is currently being organised. The cost of this momentous event will be �140 which includes 3 nights bed and breakfast accommodation and 2 matches against local teams.

The Dogs

On February 12th there's going to be a fundraising night at Hall Green Greyhound stadium. The club has 100 tickets to sell at �5 each with all proceeds going towards the club. There'll be 10 races on the night with 6 specifically involving Court Celtic, who will be competing against other football clubs in the area.

The night is open to players, friends and family so anyone interested in joining in the fun should send an email using the contacts page or directly contacting the club.

New Year

After a string of three defeats, including losing to a strong Northfield Rangers, Court Celtic finally got back to winning ways against a hard working Queslett yesterday. It took until the 90th minute to score but this result moved us back to the top of the table. Hopefully results will go our way in the coming weeks and we can can be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
